Synopsis:

Fadi Younan, a now-disgraced former YouTube sensation, seeks a fresh start and moves into a new home in a historic Cairo complex. While replacing his basement boiler, Fadi stumbles upon a cache of old video tapes. These tapes contain eerie recordings left by a previous tenant, obsessed with a neighbor. Convinced of foul play, Fadi launches a YouTube channel to share the tapes and solve the mystery. His show gains massive traction, but it also attracts unwanted attention – from the police, his worried loved ones, and the sinister figure on the tapes, who wants them returned at any cost. The Basement combines analogue and digital mediums to observe the horrors humanity can inflict on one another as it challenges our voyeurism and our tendencies towards mob justice.
